Polygamy Captive Breed MB - Myths or Facts

Picture was taken during night. 

We placed a male and two (2) female simultaneously in a same ladung 

No sign of aggressiveness towards both females that was introduce to him in the day time. 

Both female and male are in stable condition.

Still under observation. Hope this will work out soon.

Simple Ladung

After some research, we decided to build a 3 compartments ladung via DIY. We have ample of time to build this 3 compartments ladung during MCO.

The measurements of each component is 3ftx3ftx6ft. 

The foundation was laid with wire mesh before adding 6 inch thick of sand over it. To prevent rat or others from entering the ladung via from under ground.

Once the foundation done. Next is piping work. We decided to have a regular bath water change for all 3 compartments without going into the ladung. Each compartments have their own tap to control the water flow into bath pot.

Building up the ladung frame. We use slotted angle bar as frame. Easy to mount the wire mesh later.

Installing the partition wall in the ladung. We use cement board for this part. All materials are easily obtainable at local hardware shop.

Fixing up wire mesh onto the slotted angle frame.

Nest box is then inserted into each individual ladung's compartment. We decided to use a sliding up nest box to view the eggs and chicks in future. We try as much as possible not to enter the ladung once breeding pair is in. Food and fresh water will be replaced on daily base via a small swing door in the center on each ladung.

Live plants are added in each compartments to give a more natural environment.

Next step is to mount all the doors in the ladung including the main door.

Finally to install rain guttering system. Ladung project completed. Now to introduce ABP MB to their new home.

Beside outdoor ladung we also built in door ladung during MCO.

The measurements of each component is 3ftx2.5ftx6ft.

Pairing was smooth as both male and female can get along well. They produce 3 eggs in 1st clutch. However 3 eggs are empty.  1st attempt by newly paired female.

MOLTING BIRDS CARE

*  Increase Live Food intake.

*  Cut live food with scissors not too small and wet.

*  Add fish oil or palm oil (Omega 3) to the cut insects and bugs.

*  Add powdered multi vitamins and Vitamin B to dry food.

*  Change the food twice a day

*  Partially cover the cage

*  Bath at least once a day

*  After molt, continue with dry food diet.

*  Healthy birds dropping consists of patch of white and a bit of black (waste)

SICK BIRDS

Feed with vitamins B Complex via crickets

Scaly leg: Use baby oil or ubat gamat to remove.

INCUBATION FOR MB EGGS

*  Relative Humidity (RH) 48-52%

*  Temperature 37.3'C 

*  On the 9th Day, 

       -Stop Turning the eggs.

       -Set the Relative Humidity (RH) 65%

*  Hatch by 11th - 14th days

*  Relative Humidity (RH) 80-85%

*  Temperature from 37.3 'C to 36'C 

*  Minus 0.1'C each day

NEWLY HATCH MB CARE INCBATOR

* Day 1 to 3: Feed with small guppy and crickets abdomen only.

* Day 4 to 9: Continue feeding small guppy and crickets abdomen plus meal worms (choose white one because is soft.)

*Day 10 and above can introduce non live food to the birds mixed with live food.

**bird ID band can be gently insert to baby birds when  straw feather grows on wings. Normally will be between day 8 to 10. This is because the baby birds legs are still flexible.
